When summer ends (one mic)

by Mary Milne

/

lyrics

When the light has changed and the northern birds have flown
and all the sunshine travellers have packed up and gone home
the fireflies will dim their lights the waters getting cold
and one last summer sweethearts lost their hand to hold

like the stones around the fireside
or like a good old friend
I will still be there baby when the summer ends

now the beaches and the poolsides have packed up and gone home
and all the dark green hills have shed their leaves and show their bones
and out there in the midnight the silent snowflakes swarm
I'll be there beside you baby
trying to keep warm

and though I cannot see through time
or up around that bend
I know that I'll still be here baby when the summer ends

now I know we've knocked each other down now
more than once or twice
sometimes I wonder how you still walk in and look so nice

and though I cannot say love is a thing I understand
I know that I'll still be here baby
when the summer ends
